Flo Trujillo, Youth Services Coordinator at the Farmington Public Library (NM) shared some of the fun, creative literacy-based activities she has planned for her Dia Tailgate Party. Flo is an avid supportor of Día and our first Día Dynamos (formerly Día Champions.)
Decorate a Paper Apron
“Pop Open a Good Book” Select a favorite “food” book (see examples below) and decorate your paper apron to display the book. Select from the collage materials or draw your own design.
In the Night Kitchen
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie; If You Give a Pig a Pancake
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Green Eggs and Ham
Poetry Garden/Jardin Poesia
Make your own flower from tissue paper or die-cut petals, stems and leaves. Find a poem online, in a book or write your own on the flower. Glue your flower to the popsicle stick or use the pipe cleaner to stand up your flower. Display it in the Poetry Garden/Jardin Poesia.
Kick-off Registration for Summer Reading
Enjoy an afterschool snack, listen to a story, decorate a flower for the poetry garden, make a craft and take home information about summer activities in your community! Join us at the Tailgate Party in the Farmington Public Library parking lot on April 30. Open to all youth and their families. Register early for the summer reading program, Make a Splash. Register for summer reading on the online card catalog computers in the library or register using the laptops at the tailgate party hosted by the teen advisory council! Make time to get a library card and check out a book!
