Years ago, when my youngest, now an Austin cat veterinarian, was in kindergarten or first grade, she brought home her Weekly Reader, Eekly Reader to her. It was a presidential election year, and she looked at the pictures of the two candidates and asked, “Where are the ladies?” I’ve told that story for years. Over forty years later, a woman is finally a candidate of a major party. Hooray!

Water, Water, Everywhere
June is National Rivers Month, when all paddlers, fishermen, outdoor enthusiasts and others are encouraged to organize or volunteer with National River Cleanup.
June 8 is World Oceans Day, a global day of ocean celebration and collaboration for a better future.
Celebrate the wonder of water this month as we value this glorious natural resource!

Zing!
Congratulations to all the spring graduates! I hope that my book ZING! Seven Creativity Practices for Educators & Students can be a good gift especially for educators and librarians. It’s hard to believe that I had the opportunity to write this book, part memoir/part creativity strategies, in an Italian castle in Umbertide.
It’s a challenge for each of us, isn’t it, to steadily develop our inventive selves?

A Memorial Day Pledge
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

A surprise meeting
Look who my son-in-law, Roger Martinez, met at a great New Mexican restaurant in downtown Santa Fe.
